Birthdays are a great reason to travel especially when you make this birthday trip to the beautiful country of Costa Rica and the vibrant town of Playas del Coco. This year my husband planned a five day adventurous trip to Costa Rica. The only clue he gave me was black sand beaches and I knew this would be a great experience.
Stay
Hotel Good Life

This charming boutique hotel, nestled in a quiet corner just a 10 minute walk from the beach and 5 minutes from the many restaurants that Coco Beach has to offer, was the perfect stay. Just the right distance from the activity of the town and the luxury of temporary seclusion. The hotel has a total of 8 rooms equipped with air conditioning, high-speed internet, rainfall shower head, and an à la carte breakfast menu. They also delivered freshly brewed Costa Rican coffee to our room every morning. The customer service is top tier as the hotel is family owned and operated and you don't have to worry about unresponsiveness from the staff because the owners live right next door to the hotel just a few steps away.
Eats

Cafe Corazon
Our first meal in Costa Rica and this was a perfect choice because they offer a traditional menu which included casados, smoothies and fresh coffee.
Naans & Curries
I was shocked to see how popular Indian cuisine is in this Costa Rican beach town! This newly located restaurant is not only beautiful inside, but the food and service were phenomenal.
Verde Salvia Ristorante Italiano E Pizzeria
The perfect place for a date night. This restaurant definitely gave romantic vibes. I enjoyed a nice glass of red wine and Trevor ordered a fried sage pizza. Of course it was a 10/10!
II Gusto Della Vita
They have a salad bar! Need I say more? Me and Trevor had a delicious late night Italian dinner at this lovely restaurant.
Santorini Greek Restaurant
For a moment I got to reenact a Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants scene at this greek restaurant. They have a great selection of wines. I had Saganaki (flaming greek cheese) for the first time and a main dish of fried fish.
Johann Bistro
A 2 minute walk from the beach this is the perfect spot for after swim eats. You can look forward to enjoying pizza, sandwiches, and sushi. Great option for causal eats.
Playas Del Coco Beach

The warm water, sight of fishing boats, and even pelicans chilling on the sand. This beach was a great mix of locals and tourists which made us grateful for an authentic Costa Rican experience. Trevor and I made sure we spent at least an hour at the beach everyday, even the days we did excursions if we came back in time to enjoy the sunlight. Occasional vendors was by no means overwhelming as I've experienced in other countries. For the the 3 hours we spent at the beach we only had 2 vendors try to sell us something, one was a young girl selling bracelets who gracefully accepted us declining to buy after her first offer and the second one was a man selling drinking coconuts which we did not decline.
If you are looking for an authentic Costa Rican experience, option of international and local foods and a chill town safe for yourself and the family you need to add Coco Beach, Costa Rica to your travel list.
